A quick guide to words and locations in Sand Dancer

Words

  • Blood Bond: A ritual which binds Sandarians together through blood magic.
  • Blood Fire: Fire magic which is powered by blood.
  • Bondrite: A ceremony for when a person joins a House through either adoption or marriage, or by coming of age.
  • Bosan: A Neu Bosan, a person who comes from the western isles of Neu Bosa.
  • Djharn: A tribe leader.
  • Duslander: A Sandarian who was born in the Duslands. They are recognizable by their dark brown skin.
  • Fire Walker: A person who possesses blood fire.
  • Gai: The god/goddess of nature.
  • Gaislander: A Sandarian who was born in Gaisland. They are recognizable by their light brown skin.
  • Green Hand: An acolyte of Gai and healer.
  • Guardian of Gai: The king's champion and warden of Gaisland.
  • Hartnord: A person who comes from the northern kingdom of Hartnor.
  • Helbond: A coming-of-age challenge of bravery for boys to become men.
  • House: A noble family who rules the cities and are bound by blood bonds.
  • Lune: The goddess of the moon.
  • Lurrite: A funeral ceremony.
  • Protector of the Path: The king's champion and warden of the Duslands.
  • Rahn: The god of the sun.
  • Saber: A short curved blade, thicker than a scimitar.
  • Sahn: A coloured cloth sash worn over the shoulder to represent a House.
  • Sand Dancing: A tribal sword dancing technique.
  • Sandarian: A person who was born in Sandair.
  • Sera: A gold coin worth 100 sils.
  • Scimitar: A curved bladed weapon.
  • Sil: A bronze coin and Sandair's main currency.
  • Solander: A Sandarian who was born in the Solands. They are recognizable by their bronze skin which is lighter than Gaislander and Duslander.
  • Solara: The royal bloodline.
  • Solaran Stance: A sword fighting technique favoured by the Houses.
  • Sorran: A blood-sworn companion owned by a master.
  • Sorrite: A duel between two men to earn a sorran.
  • Street Rat: A beggar or orphan.
  • Sword of Solus: The king's champion and warden of the Solands.
  • Water Bearer: An acolyte of Lune and the town plumbers.

Locations

  • Arlent: A Dusland town hidden in a valley beyond a canyon.
  • Bloodstone Island: A large island within the Lapis Waterscape inlet of the Solands. It has two large bridges connecting the Duslands to the Solands via the capital city of Solus.
  • Bloodstone Keep: A large red fortress and golden palace home to the royal family and the House council, as well as libraries and the Academy. It also hosts visiting nobles.
  • Duslands: The southernmost region of Sandair. The Duslands are covered in desert, and so don't have as many towns or Houses as the rest of Sandair. Tribes still exist in the desert.
  • Gaisland: The westernmost region of Sandair. It is known for its thick forests and for its close links to Neu Bosa.
  • Enais: A town in Gaisland which is well known for its vineyards and white wine.
  • Hartnor: The kingdom to the north. Sandarians and Hartnords have traditionally warred with each other for generations as the Hartnords consider Sandarian blood fire to be an affront to their god.
  • Khalbad: A fishing town in the Duslands beside the Giant's Tail river.
  • Lune's Path: A series of silver poles which are dotted through the Duslands to attract and guide travellers through the desert so they don't become lost.
  • Myryn: A town in north Gaisland which is owned by a Neu Bosan House. It is known for receiving trade from Neu Bosa and has a large Bosan population.
  • Neu Bosa: The isles of the western ocean. The people of Neu Bosa have long been allies to Sandair.
  • Sandair: The kingdom to the south, and the setting of Sand Dancer.
  • Saraani: A port city on the northern coastline of the Solands. It is owned by the second largest House, House Sarabond.
  • Solands: The northernmost region of Sandair which is home to the capital city of Solus. It borders Hartnor to the north and is known for its large plains.
  • Solus: The capital city of Sandair. It rests atop Bloodstone Island and is home to the royal family.
  • Tomb of Kings: An ancient tomb within the heart of the Duslands where members of the royal family must undertake their bondrite.
